Below is a brief summary of Roberts background.
' My engineering life started at
an early age. At just 12 years old I worked alongside my older
brother Ian and our father at his engineering company in Chelmsford. It
was normal practice to work weekends and school holidays.
In 1973, aged 17, I began a 4 year apprenticeship
as a Technician with Marconi in Chelmsford ending with a position
in the jig and tool design office.
Marconi could not offer me a permanent position. My father offered
me a position to join himself and my brother in the family business
and to continue my college education. Both Ian and I achieved
'Higher national Certificate' qualifications in Engineering.
Over the next 15 years the business grew
both in size and the complexity of contracts carried out. We specialised
in Special Purpose Machinery and developed our own range of industrial
Plastic Forming Machinery, supplying major international companies
including:
Rothmans PLC
3M (UK)
Royal Small Arms
Smith and Nephew
Hudson Bay Co
Trebor....and many more.
I needed a fresh challenge and this was achieved
by selling part of my interest in the family business.
Ian and I formed a commercial development partnership and spent
the next few years developing and industrial site in Chelmsford
and one in Harlow, still maintaining an active interest in engineering.
A strong friendship developed with an experienced
engineer designer and between us we identified the need for a
range of competitively priced products aimed at the education
and hobby market. The next few months were spent developing the
first Copyright machine.
The last few years have been spent running
our property company and going back to my engineering roots by
developing other copyright products.
We aim to offer a complete range of plastic forming and process
machinery for the education and hobby market.
My family always had great pride with the finished products we
produced and I will continue to put quality before price in our
products. I firmly believe that there is a market for all of our
quality produced products.
I really enjoy what I am doing and
am very excited by the prospect of developing new products to
our range. I have also designs for various consumer products which
I hope to develop and bring to the market place.'
